Service with Purpose

Meet Mark

I am not your typical candidate for public office. But these are not typical times. In the words of the immortal JFK, “Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.” I have never been more concerned about the direction our country is headed. This concern, along with the love I have for democracy and the rule of law, has compelled me to take President Kennedy’s advice and run for public office, specifically Justice of the Peace.

I am fifty years young, married to the love of my life Hope, whom we share one son, Taylor. For the past 23 years, Pearland has been more than where we live - it’s where we have built our lives and become part of a community we call home. I have worked as banker, manager, professional home inspector and now as a small business owner.

I was born in Seabrook and raised by my loving parents and grandparents. They were all educators so I learned early on the importance of knowledge, compassion, diversity, inclusion, and acceptance. My mother was a big supporter of MLK Jr and she taught me that I should always judge someone by their character and not the color of their skin, and that every person has a voice and should use that voice to defend injustices when and where they see them. My mother also taught me the power of protest and not being afraid to make your voice heard. So I am taking my decades of life experience, lessons I’ve learned, to try a make a difference for the good of the community. I believe what we need now is more, kindness, compassion, honesty, and respect towards one another. If elected for Justice of the Peace, I promise to model those qualities as paramount to the type of justice I want to instill.

Issues

  • When I am elected as Justice of the Peace, I promise to focus on fairness and impartiality. I believe in a courtroom setting, being impartial and fair are the ultimate acts of kindness and compassion. I will be a judge who applies the law consistently and without bias, to ensure true justice for all citizens, including plaintiffs, defendants, and law enforcement.

  • As Justice of the Peace, I will promise to be a responsible steward of the tax payer's dollars. That will be done by running an efficient and well-managed court where we will focus on resolving cases promptly and diligently and performing magistrate duties all while adhering to strict legal standards.

  • I will be visible, accessible, and engaged in the community. I believe the office of the Justice of the Peace should be a positive and trusted position, and I am committed to educating the public about the role of the court and its services.
